It’s estimated that approximately 1 in 6 couples struggle with not being able to get pregnant.
It can be a time of isolation and depression — the sense that one is being left out, the frustration, the feeling of being punished, the realization that we grew up taking for granted that we would be parents, and now our bodies are betraying us.
One of the most challenging aspects of the infertility experience is dealing with the emotional ups and downs relating to medical treatment, the uncertainty about outcomes, and the challenge of having to make important decisions such as when “enough is enough.“ It is necessary to learn how to take care of yourself, make sure you that get the support you need, and to manage your emotions so that your self-esteem and outlook on life remains as positive as possible.
Therapy with me can provide objective and caring support, help you learn coping skills, and to express what is going on for you to your partner, hear their thoughts and feelings, reduce stress, tension and anxiety, and decide if and when you wish to take “next steps” – whatever those steps may be. Adoption Counseling
Working with adoptive parents, adults who were adopted as children, and birthparents who gave up a child for adoption is an area of special interest for me.
Adoption is often not talked about, within or outside the family. It can be a source of great joy…and cause people to suffer grief, often in silence and alone.
Adoption breeds insecurity, for all parties involved. Adoptive relationships are similar to those of a biological family in many ways and they are different in some important ways.
I have many tools to help you through dealing with the thoughts and feelings, which inevitably arise throughout life, when that life has included adoption.
